A 13-year-old girl has died five days after her seven-year-old brother died from a poisoned Easter egg.

Evelyn Silva died on Monday at Brazil’s Imperatriz Municipal Hospital where she has been hospitalized since Wednesday.

Her reason for death was attributable to a vascular shock that was linked to multiple organ failure.

The hospital said: ‘Unfortunately, the clinical condition showed serious and rapid deterioration without responding to treatment.’

Evelyn, her brother Luis and their mother Miriam, 36, each had a bit of the chocolate egg after it was dropped off at their home in Imperatriz.

The eggs were inside a plastic tray with a note reading: ‘With love, to Miriam Lira. Glad Easter!!’

Luis was found unresponsive together with his father Rafael desperately administering CPR.

But he went into cardiac arrest and died at 4am last Thursday.

Miriam stays under statement in hospital and is in a stable condition.

Police have arrested Rafael’s ex-wife Jordélia Pereira, who admitted to buying the chocolate but denied lacing them with poison.

‘The evidence suggests that the crime was motivated by revenge, by jealousy, provided that the writer’s ex-husband is the present partner or boyfriend of the victim, who was poisoned along together with her two children,’ said Maranhão’s Department of Security Secretary, Maurício Martins said, as quoted by Brazilian news outlet G1.

The patient had been hospitalized in a serious condition in the ICU since last Thursday (16). According to the Municipal Hospital, despite medical treatment Evelyn's condition showed serious deterioration and did not respond to treatment. The victim was poisoned with chocolate along with her mother Mirian Lira and her brother Lu?s Fernando, aged seven, who died in the early hours of last Thursday (17). Mirian Lira was extubated on Sunday (20), and discharged from the ICU but she remains hospitalized in a ward at the hospital.

She had travelled to town last Wednesday, and visited the chocolate shop while wearing a wig to disguise her identity.

In chilling shop CCTV footage, accused Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, 36, is seen wearing sunglasses and a black wig, hiding her dyed blonde hair.

On the counter, she is seen holding a box of luxury mini Easter eggs before paying with a bank card.

After the delivery, Mirian received an anonymous call asking if she had received the package.
