‘Thunderbolts’ Release Date, Plot, Trailer & More Details – Hollywood Life

The Thunderbolts will likely be making their grand debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025. Within the Marvel comics, the Thunderbolts are a bunch of antiheroes/reformed villains who work for the federal government. Marvel confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022 that a Thunderbolts* movie was officially within the works. The upcoming film features an all-star solid and will likely be a part of Phase Five of the MCU — and the most recent trailer gave fans a powerful sneak peek!

The production was placed on hold attributable to the Hollywood strikes in 2023, so the discharge date was pushed back greater than once. ‘Thunderbolts’ Release Date

Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Marvel pushed the discharge date back a 12 months due to scheduling conflicts attributable to the SAG-AFTRA and writers’ strikes.

The movie was originally expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2024. The unique release date was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. The movie was purported to begin filming in June 2023, however the crew was told that production would need to wait until the top of the strike, in accordance with Deadline.

The film will likely be the second-to-last movie released in Phase Five, before Blade starring Mahershala Ali. The MCU Phase 5 movies coming out before Thunderbolts include Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, and Captain America: Latest World Order. Marvel has also debuted a slew of Phase 5 TV shows on Disney+, including Secret InvasionLoki season 2, and Echo. Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again, are on the horizon.

‘Thunderbolts’ Solid & Crew

The initial Thunderbolts* solid was revealed at Disney’s D23 Expo in September 2022. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige brought the solid onto the stage to introduce them to the audience. Here’s the total solid.

  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier. Sebastian made his MCU debut in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avengers. Since then, he’s appeared in six more movies and the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. On the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Sebastian gave an update about Thunderbolts. “I’m excited. I’m going to return mainly in a month or so. I’ve missed it. It’s an ideal solid,” he told Variety.
  • Wyatt Russell as John Walker. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, John is appointed because the successor to Captain America by the US Government.
  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Valentina is the director of the CIA and starts forming the Thunderbolts within the post-credits scene of Black Widow. She’s also in Black Panther: Wakanda Ceaselessly.
  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Yelena is Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow’s adopted sister who’s recruited by Valentina to kill Clint Barton for his role in her death. She goes after Clint within the Hawkeye series.
  • David Harbour as Red Guardian. Red Guardian is the father-figure to Natasha and Yelena. He’s in Black Widow.
  • Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster. Antonia is brainwashed by her father in Black Widow.
  • Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost. Ava has invisibility and intangibility powers who appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Ayo Edebiri was originally purported to star in Thunderbolts*, but she needed to drop out attributable to scheduling conflicts. Blockers star Geraldine Viswanathan is replacing The Bear star in Thunderbolts. Marvel has remained quiet on who Ayo (and now Geraldine) will likely be playing within the film.

Ayo’s exit comes after Steven Yeun needed to drop out of an undisclosed role in Thunderbolts*. “I believe for me, time passing and things shifting type of pulled me out of it,” Steven told Variety. “But Jake [Schreier], I do know, goes to do an incredible job.” He added, “I wanna do a Marvel movie.”

Lewis Pullman has replaced Steven in Thunderbolts*. Lewis recently received critical popularity of his performance in Lessons in Chemistry with Brie Larson. The actor, who’s the son of Bill Pullman, also played Bob in Top Gun: Maverick.

Jake Schreier is directing Thunderbolts*, marking his first MCU project. His most famous movie is 2015’s Paper Towns. Eric Pearson is writing the screenplay, having done so previously for Thor: Ragnarok and Black Widow.

What We Know About The ‘Thunderbolts’ Plot

When Marvel revealed Thunderbolts*, in addition they unveiled the temporary plot description. It reads, “A bunch of antiheroes goes on missions for the federal government.” That’s on par with the Thunderbolts’ story within the Marvel comic books. Helmut Zemo forms the Thunderbolts within the comics, but Daniel Bruhl seemingly isn’t returning as Zemo within the film, so clearly the MCU is moving into a unique direction.

David Harbour gave some hints about Thunderbolts* in an interview on the Phase Zero podcast. “We’re like losers, which I like. And I believe it’s fun to observe us just mess all the pieces up,” the actor said. “I believe that’s the spectrum. I believe it’s very funny, but there’s also lots of pathos in that.”

David continued, “There’s lots of drama in a bunch of people that just keep getting their lives incorrect — due to character flaws, keep messing things up. And no person giving them the respect that they do to Captain America and Iron Man — very capable people. So there’s rather a lot to attract on there. I believe there’s lots of movie there that’ll be fun.”
