Cignal posts rare win over Creamline for 3-0 start

MANILA, Philippines — Cignal ended a three-year winning drought against Creamline, 25-22, 25-18, 28-26, to remain unbeaten within the PVL on Tour on Tuesday at FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

The HD Spikers averted a meltdown within the third set, where they blew a 24-21 match-point advantage after Creamline forced a deuce at 24-all.

The Cool Smashers saved two more match points before Ishie Lalongisip got here to Cignal’s rescue with two consecutive attacks as The HD Spikers improved to a 3-0 record in Pool B and have yet to drop a set within the preseason tournament.

Santos continued to be the HD Spikers’ leading scorer with 18 points, while Lalongisip had 15 points, 10 excellent receptions, and 7 digs. Rose Doria-Aquino added 10 points, with captain Gel Cayuna pacing the squad with 22 excellent sets on top of 5 points.

It was Cignal’s first win against Creamline because the 2022 Reinforced Conference, ending eight consecutive setbacks of their head-to-head matchup.

“We’re so blissful. Truthfully, we didn’t expect to win in straight sets. It makes us really pleased with the team—our coaches, players, and even the management for his or her support,” said Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos in Filipino.

“The best way we prepared for this, we’re really blissful because everyone pushed to make it occur. We still make errors, but what’s good is how we bounce back. This will likely be something we are able to use to maintain improving.”

Cignal eyes to maintain its winning streak going against Chery Tiggo on July 19 and ZUS Coffee on July 20 in Passi, Iloilo.

Gumabao was the lone double-digit scorer for Creamline with 11 points and 7 digs. The Cool Smashers dropped to a 2-1 record and absorbed their first straight-set loss because the 2024 All-Filipino Conference to Chery Tiggo.

Alyssa Valdez had nine points and nine excellent receptions. Jema Galanza chipped in eight points, while recent recruit Mich Gamit debuted with three points in the primary two sets.

Creamline tries to regain its winning ways in Passi.
