WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is one of the crucial famous wrestlers on this planet today. But before he became the legendary high-flying superstar we all know, he had to start out somewhere – and that somewhere involved some very different ring names that fans may not recognize.
On “No-Contest Wrestling,” Mysterio shared stories about his early days in wrestling and the way his famous uncle helped shape his profession from the very starting. His love for wrestling began when he was just just a little kid.
“I grew up watching my uncle, going to wrestling school with my uncle, he would let me go within the ring and roll around, I’m talking five, six years old. I knew I wanted to try this from the moment I fell in love and I began training on the age of 15,” Mysterio explained.
When Mysterio finally began wrestling professionally, he didn’t immediately grow to be “Rey Mysterio.” As a substitute, his uncle gave him different names to make use of within the ring. His very first wrestling name was quite unusual.
“The Green Lizard was a one-time thing. After which after that, my uncle on the time was superb at giving names to up and coming wrestlers. So for me it was the hummingbird, in Spanish, colibri … And that was my identity for nearly two and a half years. And on the time I used to be very comfortable with that, I used to be like, cool I’ll roll with that. I mean I didn’t tell him, but I used to be pondering in my head I actually desired to be Rey Mysterio Jr, or the son of Rey Mysterio, but Hummingbird it’s,” he revealed.
For nearly three years, Mysterio wrestled as “Hummingbird” before eventually becoming the Rey Mysterio Jr. that hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world would come to like.
