The third Test of the continuing five-match series between India and England might be played at Lord’s from July 10 to 14. On the eve of the beginning of the match on the Home of Cricket, India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant attended a press conference and gave an enormous update about India’s playing XI for the high-voltage match on the Home of Cricket.

In response to Pant, who scored twin centuries within the series opener played at Headingley in Leeds and a half-century within the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, the team management continues to be discussing the playing XI, and the ultimate call might be taken before the beginning of the match.

“Options are still open, discussions are still occurring. Sometimes wicket changes color in two days. We’ll take the decision. Whether it is going to be 3+1 or 3+2,” Pant said when asked about India’s bowling combination.

In Edgbaston, India played three seamers—Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna; two spin bowling all-rounders—Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja; and one fast bowling all-rounder—Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make a comeback for India at Lord’s after missing the second red-ball match at Edgbaston as a part of his workload management, but it is going to be interesting to see if Kuldeep Yadav manages to seek out a spot within the playing XI.

Kuldeep was expected to feature within the second Test as well, but after Indian tailenders failed to indicate up with the bat in the primary Test, Indian team management decided to play an additional all-rounder in Birmingham so as to add some depth to the batting unit.

If Kuldeep, who picked up a five-wicket haul for India in his last Test against the English team at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala last 12 months, is taken into account by the team management, then in all likelihood he’ll replace Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Reddy played instead of Shardul Thakur within the second Test, but he didn’t take any wickets in the primary innings, and with the bat, he only scored a complete of two runs (1 within the 1st innings and 1 within the 2nd innings).
