Philippine women’s football team star Sarina Bolden bared on Thursday that an ACL injury sustained a couple of months earlier caused her to miss the recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.
In a lengthy social media post, Bolden said she’s been going through a difficult period after getting hurt last April while playing for Italian side FC Como Women, but vowed to beat her setback.

“There’s really no preparing for the form of pain that comes with an injury like this, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too,” Bolden said. “When the thing that’s been your world for so long as you possibly can remember is suddenly taken from you, it’s hard to make sense of it.
She added that there’s been “shock, sadness, denial, frustration” amid her ongoing recovery from surgery last May in Australia, and understands that “this might be an extended road and I’m giving myself grace to take it daily.”
Bolden didn’t play within the Filipinas’ friendly defeat at home to Chinese Taipei and the three wins out of three matches within the Asian Cup Qualifiers in Cambodia.
The striker is best known for scoring the one goal within the Filipinas’ 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup win over Recent Zealand, and has been a favourite among the many Filipino football community.
“I’m not done. Removed from it,” Bolden said.
