Manchester United are able to submit a proposal to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, in line with reports in Brazil.

United have already held talks to sign Emiliano Martinez this summer and the Argentina international is keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, United not prepared to fulfill Aston Villa’s £40 million asking price for the 32-year-old World Cup winner.

United are available in the market for a brand new goalkeeper on account of Andre Onana’s inconsistent performances in his two seasons at Old Trafford following his £47 million move from Inter in 2023.

Onana, who has attracted interest from Monaco this summer, can be set to miss the beginning of United’s pre-season campaign on account of a hamstring injury and is an early doubt for his or her Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.

The report claims that Botafogo are already preparing for John Victor’s departure as they’ve identified Atletico Mineiro goalkeeper Matheus Mendes as his substitute.

The 29-year-old also delivered a standout performance within the 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain, who play Chelsea in Sunday’s final, in Botafogo’s second game within the group stage.

John Victor joined Botafogo in a R$5.8m (£850,000) deal from Santos 18 months ago and helped the Brazilian side win Serie A and the Copa Libertadores last 12 months.

He was named in each the Serie A and Copa Libertadores Team of the Yr for 2024.
