1000’s gathered to witness the first-ever day-night cricket match on this south Kashmir district, an event PDP legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Para praised because the “start of a brand new inning” for the valley’s youth.

The inaugural match of the Royal Premier League is going down at Pulwama Sports Stadium between Royal Goodwill and Sultan Springs Baramulla. A complete of 12 teams from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir are competing within the tournament, played under floodlights.

PDP’s Pulwama MLA Para, who was among the many spectators, highlighted the event as a landmark for youth engagement within the region, calling it the “start of a brand new inning” for the valley’s kids.

“Sports generally is a bridge of hope and opportunity. That is greater than a match — it’s a celebration of aspirations,” he told recent agency PTI.

Pulwama, together with other districts in south Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam, and Shopian, was once referred to as a stronghold for various terrorist groups and separatist politics.

“That is the primary time a day-night cricket match is being held in Kashmir, especially in Pulwama. This marks a brand new starting for our children who previously felt hopeless and depressed attributable to increasing unemployment and political uncertainty,” Para said.

Referring to the total stadium, Para noted that the big gathering from across the valley for this match is a promising start.

“It is a youth-led initiative, with organizers, promoters, and players coming from different parts of J&K. Our aim is to maintain our children away from drugs, help them overcome depression brought on by unemployment and political uncertainty, and offer recent hope through such tournaments,” the PDP leader said.

He mentioned that the tournament will reach every district and wished the players good luck.

The organisers stated that the initiative goals to advertise local talent and supply the valley’s youth with a platform to showcase their sporting skills in an expert environment.

For a lot of in the group, the match represented greater than just cricket — it was about reclaiming evenings stuffed with joy, hope, and togetherness under the floodlights.
