How Steve Martin and Martin Short Paid Tribute to Late Diane Keaton at Show

Steve Martin and Martin Short honored their late Father of the Bride costar Diane Keaton in a touching tribute during their recent Las Vegas show.

Martin, 80, and Short, 75, took the stage at Encore Theater on the Wynn, using the ultimate few moments of their Saturday, October 11, set to share a photograph of Keaton on the screen behind them. Attendees posted videos via X of the comedians gesturing toward the screen as the gang roared with applause. Short blew a kiss to Keaton’s photo before he and Martin lifted their glasses to clink cheers and toast to the actress.

Keaton died at age 79 on Saturday, sending shockwaves through Hollywood and prompting several of her former costars to pay tribute to her life and legendary profession. Martin shared a screenshot via Instagram from an Interview Magazine piece where Short asked Keaton, “Who’s sexier, me or Steve Martin?”

Keaton replied, “I mean, you’re each idiots.”

In the identical interview, Keaton and Martin’s playful friendship was on full display, with Martin asking, “Who’s probably the most unpleasant actor you’ve ever worked with — besides Marty and me?”

“Well, obviously, there won’t ever be anybody who will trouble and hassle me as much as you and Marty,” Keaton responded. “But I’m not going to reply that query, because that may hurt any individual’s feelings. Who’s the worst? It’s not either of you.”

Along with recalling the unforgettable interview, Martin shared a photograph of Keaton via X on Saturday, writing, “Loved! ‘La dee da,la dee da.’”

The next day, the Only Murders within the Constructing actor posted an image of a playbill via X, circling his name and the name Diane Hall, as Keaton was billed under her birth name on the time. (Keaton went by her mother’s maiden name once she burst onto the scene in Hollywood attributable to an actress already being registered as Diane Hall within the Actors’ Equity Association.)

“This playbill is from a 1964 college production of Carousel. Diane ‘Hall’ (Keaton) is the lead; I’m a stage hand,” Martin explained within the caption.

Keaton, Martin and Short costarred in 1991’s Father of the Bride, 1995’s Father of the Bride Part II and 2020’s Father of the Bride Part 3(ish).

“Thanks each for the Father Of The Bride movies. My without end comfort movies. ❤️,” one person commented underneath the playbill post, while a second Instagram user said, “It’s cool you saved that every one these years, Steve.”

“I didn’t realize you guys went that far back. So sorry on your loss. She was all the time one in all my favorites and I hate that she’s gone,” a 3rd person wrote.

Keaton’s other costars, including Because I Said So’s Lauren Graham and Mandy Moore, also paid their respects to the actress via social media. Graham, 58, posted a part of a letter that Keaton had written to her before her death via Instagram on Monday, October 13.

“Please don’t be a stranger. Please invite me to one in all your dinners. And at last …. Please hug yourself within the morning, and remember to jot down your book, and don’t let yourself get anxious, you big winner you. Love, Di,” the letter said partly, referencing a book Graham eventually wrote.
