Dana White and the UFC matchmakers receive numerous praise for fights they put together within the premier promotion, but not all fans agree with among the matchups.
Earlier this week, UFC boss Dana White once more took to Instagram live to announce some blockbuster future fights within the promotion.
In his announcement, White announced the important and co-main event for the ultimate UFC PPV under the ESPN broadcast partnership, granting Merab Dvalishvili his wish to interrupt the record for probably the most title defenses in a calendar yr.
In addition to the 2 title fights announced for UFC 323, the UFC boss also announced that former double champion Henry Cejudo will tackle popular prospect Payton Talbott.
White responds to criticism over fight booking
‘Triple C’ is coming off the back of a profession worst three losses in a row, along with his last loss being a controversial one against Song Yadong.
Talbott alternatively suffered his first profession loss earlier this yr when he was dominated by Brazilian veteran Raoni Barcelos, but he bounced back with a win over Felipe Lima at UFC 317.
In his loss to Barcelos, the 27-year-old showed clear holes in his grappling game, which he somewhat patched up in his clash against Lima.
Despite that, when White announced Cejudo vs Lima, fans were flabbergasted on the matchmaking considering Cejudo’s background in wrestling and Talbott’s clear hole in that area.
Not only that, but some fans also questioned giving Cejudo a young 27-year-old contender in what will likely be his final fight in the game.
Nevertheless, following Dana White’s Contender Series this past Tuesday, the UFC boss responded to the criticism, saying that Cejudo vs Talbott is a ‘fun fight’.
“It’s a fun fight. Yeah, I believe it’s a fun fight, , when you have got a young up and coming guy like Talbott, you should put him in against guys which are a hardcore veteran like (Cejudo) so yeah, I really like that fight,” White said.
Cejudo confirms it would be his ‘last dance’
Just just a few days after the fight was announced, Cejudo confirmed on his social media that it would be his ‘last dance’, and that he’ll finally call it a day on his profession.
Having said that, the 38-year-old has claimed retirement on several occasions and continues to return to motion.
If it does mark the top of Cejudo’s profession in the game, he’ll undoubtedly go down as certainly one of the best fighters of all time, having accomplished the feat of becoming a double champion.
