Talking to journalist Vimal Kumar on YouTube, the Indian T20I captain admitted that he has struggled to balance his white-ball game across formats and hopes the nice Protean de Villiers can show him the best way.

“If I meet him soon, I would love to ask him how he managed to balance his T20I and ODI games,” Suryakumar said. “I haven’t been in a position to achieve this. I assumed ODIs needs to be played like T20Is. I need to ask him what he did to achieve success in each formats.”

The 33-year-old, who last played an ODI in 2023, has featured in 37 matches, scoring 773 runs at a mean of just 25. While his T20I exploits have earned him global acclaim, his ODI form stays a glaring weak spot.

Even after a stellar IPL 2025 season, where he racked up over 600 runs, Suryakumar’s performances in international cricket haven’t mirrored that success. For the reason that World Cup 2023, he hasn’t been recalled to India’s ODI setup.

“AB, when you are listening to this, please get in contact with me quickly. There are three or 4 vital years ahead for me. I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket. Please help me! I couldn’t balance T20Is and ODIs,” SKY requested.

Currently in Australia for the continuing five-match T20I series, which stays tied at 1-1 as of now, SKY hopes to rediscover his blistering form and maybe reignite his own 50-over journey before it’s too late.
