Sydney Sweeney’s recent boxing biopic bombs at box office during opening weekend

‘Christy’, starring Sydney Sweeney, was a swing and a miss on the box office.

The 28-year-old actress has starred in movies like ‘Anyone But You’ and widely popular TV shows like ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The White Lotus’.

Sydney Sweeney took on the role of girls’s boxing trailblazer and former champion Christy Martin in a brand new biopic titled ‘Christy’, which premiered on Friday.

Sweeney trained in boxing for 3 hours a day and placed on 35 lbs for the film, even saying she’d be open to doing a boxing match for charity someday.

Despite her body of labor, ‘Christy’ ended up flopping on the box office.

‘Christy’ ranked in top 10 worst wide box office openings

‘Christy’ earned $1.3M on the box office during opening weekend.

That number was minuscule in comparison with ‘Predator: Badlands’, which did $40M in North American theaters and $80M worldwide.

The boxing film saw a large release with 2,011 theaters, averaging $649 per theater.

‘Christy’ is now ranked #10 for the worst wide openings of all time (for a brand new release), in keeping with Box Office Mojo, behind movies like ‘Dune: Part One’ (IMAX) and ‘Scoob!’

Three of Sweeney’s movies this 12 months have didn’t pass $2M during opening weekend; the opposite two are ‘Eden’ and ‘Americana’.

Christy Martin cried in initial response to boxing biopic

Christy Martin had quite the impact on the game of girls’s boxing.

Martin was managed by legendary boxing promoter Don King and she or he fought on Mike Tyson’s pay-per-view undercard in 1996. A month later, the champion became the primary female boxer to grace the duvet of Sports Illustrated.

Speaking on Ring Champs Podcast, Martin gave her initial response to Hollywood wanting to make a movie about her.

“There’s one point that I did cry,” Martin admitted.

“And it was, it has nothing to do with anything.

“It was only a moment when I assume it sunk into me,” Martin added.

“All of it got here around to me. Like, this is basically happening, and these are my guys I’m watching on the on the [screen].

“They were portraying my guys that traveled with me all those fights, and so they were there for me.”
