Pete Davidson found solace in Eddie Murphy’s comedy in the times after his father died within the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Davidson, 31, appeared within the Being Eddie documentary, revealing his introduction to Murphy, 64, got here from watching his 1983 special, Delirious.
“Immediately, [I heard], ‘F*** this, suck this, f*** you,’ and my mom’s like, ‘Whoa, what did you get?’ I used to be dying laughing,” Davidson recalled of his mother Amy’s response to the expletive special. “She was like, ‘You may’t watch this!’ And I used to be like, ‘Please, I’m laughing.’”
He continued, “I believe she saw I used to be having fun with myself at a time where I actually wasn’t and she or he was like, ‘You may watch these items so long as you don’t repeat it or tell anybody, and it was sort of a little bit pact we made.’”
Davidson was 7 years old when his dad, Scott, died within the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. (Scott can also be survived by wife Amy and their daughter, Casey.)
“He was a fireman, [and his team was] actually the primary truck there,” Davidson recalled during an appearance on Theo Von’s eponymous podcast in September. “They were the primary truck over the bridge to the [towers]. Just about the entire house died, which is gloomy but in addition at the very least he died along with his pals.”
Davidson’s family memories with Scott, nonetheless, are “few and much between” as a result of his young age.
“He was f***ing hilarious, man,” Davidson recalled. “I just remember laughing rather a lot, him being pretty jacked and [he] smoked numerous cigarettes and driving a Subaru Impreza. That’s all I remember [besides that he] all the time had an enormous smile on his face.”

On the time, the King of Staten Island star didn’t completely understand why Scott died.
“I used to be really young, so I didn’t even really know what the f*** happened,” he said. “It hit me later, like, after I was in college. I used to be like, ‘Oh, I’m pretty offended about this.’ It’ll show up increasingly more as I grow old ‘cause you understand, ‘That’s really sad to occur to a child.’”
Davidson has also saved several mementos that remind him of his late dad.
“I even have his wedding ring that I wear on a regular basis,” he said in September. “It’s actually super f***ed-up, but I actually have his chain [and] his badge. That’s how they found [his body] and I actually have it. I just keep it in a secure ‘cause with my luck I’ll lose it. I actually have a few those things, and I actually have his fire jacket and one other set of pants [that] I framed.”
Davidson, who costarred with Murphy in The Pickup earlier this yr, also noted his “favorite thing” is hearing stories about Scott.
“The second [his friends] start talking, they’ve this big smile and their eyes sort of light up — and so they call him ‘Scotty,’ which is what his friends called him,” Davidson said. “Every part I hear is all the time really sweet. I’m sure they keep the horrible things away.”
