Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have confirmed trading in all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT), respectively.

Palghar-born Thakur joins his home franchise for the primary time after representing six other teams in a decade-long IPL profession. MI can pay LSG Rs. 2 crore as a part of the all-cash deal. That is the third trade involving Thakur within the IPL. The franchise found probably the most fun method to announce the deal, too.

The IPL confirmed the deal in a press release, saying, “Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder, Shardul Thakur is all set to represent Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the 2 franchises. The Mumbai based all-rounder was picked up by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2 crore as an injury alternative for the 18th edition of the league, wherein he featured in 10 games. Shardul has been a utility player for franchises he has represented, putting in clutch performances again and again. The all-rounder has been traded to the Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of INR 2 crore.”

While the Thakur deal had been widely reported beforehand, MI surprised their fans with one other trade, roping in Rutherford from GT. The star middle-order batter has been in excellent form in T20s over the past couple of years and would add some might to the Paltan‘s lineup.

“The explosive middle-order batter from the Caribbean brings with him a wealth of experience,” MI said in a press release. “With over 200 T20 matches and three,500+ runs across the globe, Rutherford boasts a popularity for lighting up scoreboards wherever he goes. The Southpaw’s explosive batting style & ability to contribute crucial quick-fire cameos, coupled together with his versatility as a right-arm fast-medium bowler, make him a priceless option for balance and firepower within the squad, making him the right fit for our brand of cricket.”

What happens with Arjun Tendulkar?

When the Thakur reports first got here up, it was claimed that LSG would sign pacer Arjun Tendulkar, the son of India and MI icon Sachin Tendulkar, as a part of the deal. Nonetheless, neither the MI nor the IPL statement mentioned anything.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean the deal is off. In actual fact, Tendulkar is predicted to be an LSG player soon. It’s only a separate all-cash take care of MI. The Lucknow-based franchise can pay Rs. 30 lakh for the left-arm pacer’s services.
