But with United set to lose Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, they will not be willing to part with any attacking options.

‘I believe from my standpoint that he must have stayed in Italy, because he was really striving,’ Gullit recently told Metro.

‘He was really doing well at Bologna, and I used to be hoping that he would go to Milan. I believe that as soon as he went to Manchester United, it was the improper decision.

‘I mean, for a number of players, moving to Manchester United has been the improper decision. And whoever leaves them, plays well in all places around Europe. I just hope that there’s an answer for him.

‘Return to Italy on loan when you can. Just play football. He’s player. But in the mean time, it’s difficult at Manchester United. They found a bit of form previously couple of weeks, and I hope for Manchester United that they proceed that. Because Manchester United is sweet for the Premier League as well.’
