Mumbai Indians (MI) have traded Arjun Tendulkar to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction in an all-cash deal. LSG will play Rs. 30 lakh from their BCCI-sanctioned purse to MI for the left-arm pacer, who can be the son of former MI captain and international icon Sachin Tendulkar.

The move might come as a surprise to some. Tendulkar junior was first picked by MI for INR 20 lakh in 2021, and so they continued to maintain signing or retaining him over time, which was easier because not many franchises showed solid interest in his services. He didn’t get many matches at MI either, finally making his IPL debut in 2023 and playing five games for 3 wickets at an economy of 9.36.

In line with ESPNcricinfo, MI’s decision to let him go to LSG is geared toward allowing him more playing time. LSG haven’t won any titles, but have been a very good destination for up-and-coming pacers. Last season, their battery of quicks included Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan.

They’re credited for locating out about Mayank two years ago, though most of his time since has been spent out injured. Furthermore, now they’ve also roped in arguably one of the best bowling coach within the country, Bharat Arun, who would make LSG a good more exciting prospect for all bowlers.

“Thanks, Arjun, for being a valued member of the Mumbai Indians family 💙 Everyone at MI wishes you the perfect for the following chapter of your journey with Lucknow Super Giants 🤗 We’re proud to have been an element of your development and stay up for seeing you proceed to grow and get opportunities to make your mark 🙌,” MI wrote in an announcement on social media.

On the domestic circuit, Tendulkar began with Mumbai in 2021 before shifting to Goa in 2022-23, where he broke into first-class and List A cricket.
