Talking about how he builds Prem, Shivam revealed that he rarely is dependent upon his own life to shape the character’s emotions. “I feel, 99% of the time, no,” he says when asked if personal experiences guide his performance. For him, Prem’s identity is totally separate from his own.
Shivam explained that the character is created through teamwork. He states, “Me, my directors, and writers—we together made a lifetime of Prem and there’s a way how he’ll think, react, and accept or reject things.”
He added that even when Shivam might react very in another way in real life, Prem’s reactions must stay true to the world built for him. He shares, “For those who totally feel the character, even when those moments will not be yours… you possibly can still do it together with your utmost honesty. That’s the reason it’s called acting.”
Only in rare situations – about 1% of the time, does he lean on personal memories to unlock a tougher emotional moment.

Shivam also opened up about whether people near him influence the best way he expresses emotions on screen. He clarified that their impact lies of their feedback, not in shaping his emotional approach. “I understand their opinion about what they give thought to my performances,” he said. But he avoids mixing personal emotions together with his character’s journey. “We’ve to live the character. We don’t need to make our personal life after which make a personality out of it.”
