South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma, clinched their first Test series win in India in 25 years, while indignant Guwahati fans booed Gautam Gambhir after India’s record 408-run defeat.

The emotions were completely different within the Indian and South African camps on Wednesday afternoon after the second Test match concluded in Guwahati. The Proteas were jubilant, having registered their first series win on Indian soil in 25 years. Temba Bavuma prolonged his unbeaten streak as South Africa’s Test captain, and his team jumped to the second position on the World Test Championship Points Table.

The humiliation has once more brought Gautam Gambhir’s position as head coach under the scanner. When asked if he was the suitable man for the job (coaching the team in Tests), Gambhir said it was as much as the BCCI to come to a decision his future.
“It’s as much as the BCCI to come to a decision. I’ve said it in my first press conference once I took over as the pinnacle coach. Indian cricket is vital, I’m not vital. And I sit here and say the identical thing,” Gambhir was terse as usual on the post-match press conference.
“And yes, people can keep forgetting about it. I’m the identical guy who got leads to England as well, with a young team. And I’m sure you guys will forget very soon, because quite a lot of people keep talking about Recent Zealand (home series whitewash last 12 months). And I’m the identical guy who won the Champions Trophy, and Asia Cup as well,” Gambhir reminded.
