Reginald VelJohnson opened up about his residuals for Die Hard while settling a debate on if the movie counts as a Christmas classic.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip from the Monday, December 1, episode of Celebrity Weakest Link, VelJohnson, 73, is joined by fellow stars from beloved holiday movies: Jonathan Bennett, Rachael Leigh Cook, Taye Diggs, Vivica A. Fox, Melissa Joan Hart, Eric Lloyd and Luke Macfarlane.
“Reginald, there’s a giant debate on whether you need to even be here tonight,” host Jane Lynch says. “I would like to take a vote, who thinks that Die Hard is a Christmas movie?”
The sneak peek shows everyone — but Fox — casting their vote for Die Hard being a vacation movie.
“Christmas is frequently completely happy but that was jacking people up in every single place,” Fox, 61, quips before Cook, 46, adds, “He has to get home to his family [on Christmas].”
Lynch, 65, ultimately finds a option to settle the talk by asking when the film receives probably the most attention, asking, “Reginald, are your residuals for that movie … do they get higher at Christmas?”
VelJohnson confirms that he sees an uptick in payment around Christmastime. He’s then asked who he desires to send home but tries to quietly vote out Lloyd, 39.
“I actually have to say it in front of everybody?” he shares. “He’s going to hate me.”
Celebrity Weakest Link brings together eight celebrities to compete to win as much as $1 million for the charity of their selecting. After answering general knowledge questions, the contestants bank money as a bunch and at the tip of every round, they vote out who they consider to be the weakest link
Lynch previously teased what fans can expect from the revamped version of the sport show.
“I wish to make people feel comfortable and now have type of the demeanor of a strict school marm. I feel that type of works,” she told TV Insider in September. “I feel these folks know that my tongue is firmly wedged into my cheek and there hopefully is a twinkle in my eye, unlike [the host of The Weakest Link] Anne Robinson. She was as serious as a heart attack, and that’s why that show was so good. But I didn’t for a minute think I should go that route myself.”
Lynch said one of the best a part of the gig was getting the possibility to cross paths together with her former coworkers and friends from the industry, adding, “It’s a small community, this acting community. Even when I haven’t worked with them, I do know of them, and there’s an quick familiarity.”
Celebrity Weakest Link airs Mondays on Fox at 9 p.m. ET.
