Host: “What did you make of the news out of Vancouver that they’re going to take a look at trading veteran players not named Quinn Hughes, because, like, I’m taking a look at their roster situation here, Dave and like, everybody’s protected. Like, all of the contracts that they handed out are trade-protected, except Conor Garland, Filip Chytil, and Evander Kane; it’s limited protection. So I assume they will trade him. Kiefer Sherwood could be a pleasant piece. Everybody on the back end is protected. Like, what are they trying to do exactly in Vancouver?

Dave Pagnotta: Well, they’re trying to alter a bit of bit, but they’ve limited pieces, exactly to your point, like eight guys with no movement clauses and partial no trades on top of that. Like Tyler Myers. His name has been popped up last season, popped up again this 12 months, a bit of bit, but he has a full no-move that doesn’t change to a 12-team no-trade list until July 1. That’s his expiring season on his contract.

Now possibly, in the event that they, in the event that they get some, they begin talking to some teams, and so they find a very good enough offer, or something like that, possibly they then go to him and say, Hey, would you think about moving a 12 months early? But outside of that, and I’ve been told by people across the league, and I reached out to a few of the agents that represent these players that don’t have any movement clauses, all of whom said they doubt their guys are going anywhere.

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and NHL Expansion

So and we saw Allan Walsh tweet out, funny the way you’re mentioning, speculation when a man’s got a no move, he’s referring to his client, Filip Hronek on Vancouver. So yeah, right away, the 2 names that I’m taking a look at for now which might be most which might be going to generate essentially the most interest are Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood.

Now Garland is in the ultimate 12 months of his deal, current deal. His extension kicks in July one, because it was a six-times-six deal that features a no-movement clause. Now, sometimes while you sign an extension, the no movement clause gets added to the ultimate 12 months of the present contract. That’s not the case with Garland. His doesn’t kick in till July one.

Thatcher Demko, who also signed an extension that features a no movement clause, his did apply to this season as well. His got added on for this season, and I imagine (Kevin) Lankinen also has a no-movement clause. So, good job, guys.

But Garland Sherwood, those are guys I’m taking a look at. I don’t expect there to be much interest in Evander Kane, so I’m not anticipating a move there. Teddy Blueger would generate interest afterward. He’s injured right away. They’ve got to take five guys on expiring contracts which might be going to be UFA regulars. And clearly, those are going to be a few of the players that they’re going to look to maneuver. But outside of that, that’s it.

NHL Rumors: Predators Scouting the Canadiens, the Winnipeg Jets, and Vancouver Canucks

So that you’re gonna get a good return for Sherwood, whom they haven’t talked contract with. And I’m sure teams are going to be curious to see what sort of deal he’s going to want. And you then’ve got Garland. So let’s see form of where things go from this side of things. The opposite thing too, while you leak stuff like this out, it also goes hand in hand with attempting to light a hearth under their butts.”
