Pep Guardiola has warned his Manchester City players that they can not afford to lose more games because Arsenal look ‘so solid’.

Mikel Arteta’s side are six points clear of second-placed Chelsea within the Premier League ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

City, meanwhile, sit some extent behind Chelsea and wish to recuperate at home to Leeds United on Saturday after back-to-back defeats.

Arsenal, meanwhile, impressed once more within the Champions League this week as they ran out 3-1 winners at home to Bayern Munich.

Speaking ahead of City’s game against Leeds, Guardiola admits his side at the moment are running the chance of watching Arsenal run away with a major lead at the highest of the Premier League.

‘They’re so strong and winning games, and winning games in a way where they’re so solid, like we had prior to now with Liverpool against us they usually weren’t going to drop many points.

‘That’s why you could have to be up there and that is what we’ll attempt to do.’

Guardiola also claimed his City players ‘didn’t try’ of their 2-0 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen within the Champions League on Tuesday.

‘As a fan, I might not cheer my team, playing in the way in which we played,’ Guardiola said.

‘We didn’t try to in football once you play on the green you could have to try things and we didn’t try. Possibly I actually have a theory to rotate since it’s unattainable to sustain but I had plenty of confidence in them and I still do.

‘I actually have an enormous value for what they’re as football players. Possibly I believe higher of them than they give thought to themselves. It was an excellent lesson for me, as experienced as I’m as a manager it was an excellent lesson for me for the longer term.’
