World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma is playing for Punjab within the 2025 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On Sunday morning (November 30), during his team’s third Elite Group C match against Bengal at Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad, he opened the innings and scored a half-century in only 12 balls.

He hammered 5 fours and 5 sixes to finish his 50 with a strike rate of 425.00.

Punjab had high hopes from Abhishek, who can be leading them within the premier domestic T20 competition despite his low scores (4 and 6 runs) in the primary two matches, and he didn’t disappoint on Sunday. Against the likes of Mohammed Shami, who shared a dressing room with him for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, Abhishek batted with intent to silence his critics.

He was unbeaten on 52 runs from just 13 balls at the top of 4 overs.

Abhishek faced quite a lot of criticism for his flop show in Punjab’s second match against Haryana. On Friday, he got out for just 6 runs from five balls within the 200+ run chase after which, within the super over, was dismissed for a golden duck by Anshul Kamboj.
