Are Rasmus Andersson’s days in Calgary numbered?
Sportsnet: Eric Francis, when asked about Rasmus Andersson, and what his future may hold with the Calgary Flames. Will the losing finally get Andersson? What kind of contract could he be on the lookout for? Is there even a future fit with the Flames?
Matt Marchese: “But in the case of the long run of Rasmus Andersson, like, how, how open do you’re thinking that he’s to staying? Like, and the way much of it’s the comfortability of being in Calgary and he’s been there his whole profession, and the way much of it’s needing to see what this looks like after, you already know, whether it’s this 12 months or beyond this 12 months, like, how much of that is a component of this conversation, or is that the most important part?”
Francis: “You already know, I, I’ll answer that by saying, look, he, he loves it in Calgary. 10 years he’s been there. He’s drafted there a few years before that, so it’s all he knows.
NHL Injuries: Oilers, Wild, Predators, Islanders, Rangers, Kraken, Leafs, and Canucks
But I feel that the losing is wearing on him. He wears it greater than almost anybody else. And our post-game scrums after a loss, they almost all the time send out Rasmus Anderson, and it’s like he lost his dog that day. You already know, it’s all, he all the time takes every loss so hard. And I feel, you already know, cumulatively, over his whole stay in Calgary, it’s, you already know, it’s been far more losing than winning. And I personally think that he’s probably had enough of that and needs to go try something different.
Then there’s the second part. But again, he loves Calgary, loves his teammates. And he was speaking quite a bit about that yesterday. Like he, he’s, he’s beloved in that room. He’s a pacesetter.
The opposite thing is, after all, the cash. You already know, I do understand. It’s my understanding that he was taking a look at somewhere around $9 million a 12 months last summer once they asked him what he was on the lookout for. I do consider the Calgary Flames were all for things somewhere within the neighborhood of $7 million a 12 months. That’s quite a chasm between the 2.
After which on top of that, don’t forget, Rasmus Anderson is 29 years of age. These are form of two ships passing within the night, in case you ask me. Just like the organization’s attempting to get younger, not older. And, you already know, signing him to a seven-year deal, which is one other thing he’ll be on the lookout for.
NHL Rumors: Devils, Canucks, and the Canadiens
I’m undecided the organization needs to be taking a look at something like that, especially when it’s a big-ticket item like Rasmus Anderson. So heart and soul guy, they love him. I just don’t think it’s a fit moving forward for much longer.
