England fast bowler Brydon Carse stated that his team has concrete strategies to tackle Travis Head after the Australian scored a rapid century at the highest of the order, resulting in an eight-wicket win within the Ashes series opener in Perth.
Middle-order batter Head opened rather than the injured Usman Khawaja in Australia’s second innings and played an aggressive innings, scoring a century in 69 balls — the second-fastest in Ashes history — ending with a match-winning 123.
Ahead of the second Test starting in Brisbane on Thursday, Head mentioned he was able to tackle the opening role again. Nonetheless, Carse assured that the visitors are prepared, no matter who bats early.
“I believe that was an exceptional knock by a high-quality player,” Carse said on Monday. “If he does open the batting again, we’ve got set plans we’ll look to make use of.”
“But again, I don’t think anything changes from a mindset thing. He had an incredible day trip that afternoon … whatever we’re presented with, we’ll stick with our plans.”

England need to bounce back after their eight-wicket defeat in Perth, where Carse took five wickets despite the loss.
There are concerns about Mark Wood’s fitness ahead of the Test, but Carse mentioned that the bowling unit is well-prepared, even when Wood is unavailable for the day-night, pink-ball Test.
“I’ll still be adaptable to regardless of the situation brings,” the 30-year-old said.
“Obviously again different challenges this week, where we might be bowling under lights at different times.
“But I believe as a bowling group we’re quite settled in and where we’re going to bowl and what our role is within the side.”
England fast bowler Mark Wood missed a training session Saturday, raising doubts about his availability for the second Ashes Test attributable to concerns over his troublesome left knee.
