The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lifted the provisional suspension on batsman Haider Ali, who had been sidelined from competitive cricket following rape allegations in Manchester in September. The PCB announced on Wednesday that Ali is amongst nine Pakistani players granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to take part in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“The players have been given permission to play the event until twenty third January,” confirmed a source throughout the board.

Haider Ali, who has played in 35 T20Is and three ODIs for Pakistan, faced rape allegations while touring England with the Pakistan Shaheens squad. The allegations were brought forward by a UK-born Pakistani woman to the Manchester city police. Consequently, the PCB had suspended Ali “pending the consequence of the continued investigation.”

On September 25, Manchester police closed the case, citing insufficient evidence to proceed with charges or arrest the cricketer.

Along with Ali, the PCB has also issued NOCs for the BPL to Muhammad Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed, Sahabzada Farhan, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, Khawaja Nafay, and Ehsanaullah.

Meanwhile, out-of-favour Pakistan batter Umar Akmal has been denied an NOC and has appealed to the board for a proof. “I don’t know the rationale, but I actually have missed out on some superb contracts since the board is just not clearing my applications to issue an NOC to me,” he stated.
