Christina Aguilera recurrently stuns in full glam — but her daughter prefers mom rocking a more natural look.
During an appearance on the Tuesday, December 9, episode of the Jennifer Hudson Show, Aguilera, 44, revealed that Summer, 10, whom the pop star shares with fiancé Matt Rutler, has a “favorite side” to her.
“[It’s] no-makeup mama. As soon as I’m done shooting or whatever, she’s like, ‘OK can you’re taking that off? Now it’s time to be cozy,’” Aguilera, who can also be mom to son Max, 17, told Hudson, 44. (Aguilera shares Max with ex-husband Jordan Bratman.)
The “Dirrty” singer added that Summer “loves [her] freckles” despite Aguilera often covering them with makeup. “She’s like, ‘Am I going to have freckles some day?’ She’s just, No. 1 mama fan,” Aguilera said.
Touching on motherhood generally, Aguilera continued, “You learn through their eyes. It’s very subjective and … humbling. They see every side of me.”
Aguilera also spoke to Hudson about Summer’s guest spot in her upcoming film, Christina Aguilera: Christmas in Paris, which hits theaters on Sunday, December 14, and Sunday, December 21.
When asked whether the teenager would follow in her famous mom’s footsteps, Aguilera explained that she’s naturally drawn to creative arts, including acting.
“She’s such an artist … she paints, she draws, she makes beautiful masks and pieces … she’s just so creative,” Aguilera said. “She’s definitely her own thing. I never wish to push anything on my kids. Whatever they’re obsessed with, I’m there to support it, but she has taken an interest in acting so she does lessons.”
Aguilera also discussed Max with Hudson, detailing that they share a bond formed through their love of music.
“We have now loads of fun after I’m headlining festivals and things like that because there’s numerous other acts within the lineup and he gets to go and enterprise backstage,” she said. “We get to, like, really connect. I get cool mom points for that.”
Aguilera’s candid family reflections are a rarity, with the singer maintaining privacy inside their personal life. In November 2024, she offered a glimpse into the clan’s adventures, taking to Instagram on the time to post a photograph of herself and Rutler, 40, standing with Max and Summer while on vacation. “Unseen bits,” she captioned the post.
Earlier this 12 months, Aguilera and Rutler, an actor and assistant director, stepped out for a rare public date night, attending the eleventh annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Los Angeles. The April 5 outing saw the couple, who’ve been engaged since 2014, pose for photos on the event’s red carpet, grasping each other’s hand as they smiled for the cameras.
The duo, who met in 2010 while working on the film set of Burlesque, announced their engagement via a joint X post post after nearly three years of dating. “He asked and I said……” she wrote on the time alongside a photograph of her engagement ring.
Aguilera said on The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2010, “He’s the love of my life, and I like him. He’s such a personality, and he’s so comfortable, and at the top of the day, that’s what’s most significant.”
