Pakistan star pacer Shaheen made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut today as Melbourne Renegades faced Brisbane Heat on the Simonds Stadium in Geelong. Nonetheless, it was a forgettable maiden appearance for the left-arm pacer as his team, Heat, suffered a 14-run defeat.

It was nothing in need of a nightmare for the 25-year-old as he failed to finish his quota of overs and later was dismissed for a three-ball duck.

With the ball, Afridi bowled 2.3 wicketless overs for 43 runs and was faraway from the attack for bowling two beamers in a single over. Nathan McSweeney accomplished the rest of the 18th over before Renegades finished their innings at 212/5 with Tim Seifert hitting a century while Oliver Peake made a half-century.

Afridi has played 239 T20s and brought 334 wickets at an economy of seven.87.

Jack Wildermuth was the pick of the Heat bowlers, ending with 3/34, while Xavier Bartlett and Patrick Dooley chipped in with a wicket each.

Of their chase, Renegades lost opener Wildermuth (0) within the very first over before losing McSweeney within the fourth over. Following a temporary recovery, Heat slipped from 100/3 in 11.1 overs to 108/6 in 13 overs. Jimmy Peirson (50) and Hugh Weibgen (38) kept their diminishing hopes alive before Heat finished at 198/8.

It wasn’t a joyful debut for one more Pakistani star, Mohammad Rizwan, either. Representing Renegades, he was dismissed for 4 off 10. He though later took a catch to play a job in Wildermuth’s early dismissal.

On Sunday, Babar Azam made his much-hyped BBL debut for Sydney Sixers but mustered 2 runs before being dismissed in a five-wicket defeat to Perth Scorchers.

The BBL 2025-26 got underway with Scorchers’ win and so they currently sit at the highest of the points table, followed by Renegades. On Tuesday, defending champions Hobart Hurricanes will face Sydney Thunder.
