All eyes will likely be on Australia’s highly rated all-rounder Cameron Green, who has been widely tipped to be the most costly signing on the IPL mini auction on Tuesday. Green has scored 70 runs at a strike-rate of 153.69 and brought 16 wickets from 29 matches in his IPL profession to this point.

The batting all-rounder has represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru prior to now, but he skipped the last IPL season after suffering a back injury. He’s now a part of the mini-auction pool, having registered as a batter at a base price of Rs 2 crore.

JioHotstar recently conducted a mock auction during which former India batter Robin Uthappa represented Kolkata Knight Riders – a franchise that enters the mini-auction with the largest purse of Rs 64.3 crore.

Given their deep pockets for this event, KKR are favourites to land Green, and on the mock auction, Uthappa signed the 26-year-old for a whopping Rs 30.5 crore.

Uthappa feels that on the actual auction, Chennai Super Kings could bid as high as Rs 20 crore on the actual auction for Green. CSK have the second biggest purse with Rs 43.4 crore to spare.

“I knew CSK would also go after a middle-order all-rounder. I believed they might go somewhere around Rs 25–28 crore. Realistically, I feel they might go as much as around Rs 20 crore within the actual auction, because they might wish to keep space for other Indian and overseas players as well. But within the mock auctions, I used to be able to go as much as 35 crore for a player like Green. I feel Cameron Green should bat at No. 3 within the order,” Uthappa said.

Uthappa also successfully bid for Matheesha Pathirana, splashing Rs 13 crore.

“It’s all about planning and keeping things easy. We wanted a superb death bowler. With the form of coaching staff KKR have, Pathirana will be very effective on the death. He has been a bit of off color recently and has gone back into the auction pool, which I feel will make him more motivated to perform. A change of franchise may also help,” Uthappa explained.

“With Pathirana, Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora, for those who’re asking who bats in the primary XI, it will be Vaibhav Arora. Also, Varun has been working on his batting, he’s not too far-off from clearing the ropes either,” he added.
