The legendary multiple-weight undisputed champion scored the most important win of his profession back in September when he dethroned Canelo Alvarez for super-middleweight gold. The bout was viewed by over 40million fans on Netflix from a packed out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Terence Crawford confirms boxing retirement

Terence Crawford has today taken to Instagram to let fans know that he’s leaving boxing with an ideal 42-0 record, in addition to all of the belts at super-middleweight. He shared a brief video together with a photograph indicating his gloves being hung up.

“Walking away as an important with nothing else left to prove,” Crawford wrote, alongside the hashtags. “#CrawfordERA #1P4P #3xUndisputed #5DivisionChampion #4xLinealChampion #BWAAFighterOfTheYear #2xEspyAwardWinner.”

“Every fighter knows this moment will come, we just never know when,” Crawford could be heard saying. “I spent my whole life chasing something, not belts, not money, not headlines but that feeling. The one you get when the world doubts you but you retain showing up and proving everyone incorrect.

“This sport gave me every thing. I fought for my family, I fought for my city, I fought for the child I was once. The one who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves. And I did all of it my way.”

In a flub on his Instagram post, the video cut off after only one minute, while the complete one is over five minutes long and appeared on other socials. There, he spoke about why he was retiring and about how proud he was to do it along with his faculties fully in tact.

“I gave this sport every breath I had,” he continued. “Every scar, every triumph, every ounce of my heart. And I’ve made peace with what’s next. Now, it’s time.

“Thanks to my opponents who pushed me to places I didn’t know I could go, to the fans who believed in me after they didn’t must and made this journey something I’ll carry with pride for the remainder of my life.

“To my haters, to the people who didn’t imagine in me, thanks. Without you, without having that fireplace in my gut to prove each considered one of you incorrect, you pushed me to heights that I never thought I’d reach.

“Thanks Turki [Alalshikh], SELA and Riyadh. Not only for believing in me and making history with me but for what you proceed to do for the game of boxing. To TKO, thanks for being the primary promotional company that believed in me when no person else did.

“To Top Rank, thanks for helping me turn into a champion, to BoMac [Brian McIntyre], Red [Jacqui ‘Red’ Spikes], Esau [Dieguez], Bernard [Davis], Midge Minor, Chet [Fortune].”

He also thanked various other behind the scenes personalities, before adding: “I’m stepping away from competition, not because I’m done fighting, but because I’ve won a distinct sort of battle. The one where you walk away on your personal terms.

“This isn’t goodbye. It’s just the tip of 1 fight, and the start of one other.”
