Raven Discusses Complicated Relationship With WWE HOFer Paul Heyman

Pro wrestling veteran Raven might be considered a ‘cult classic’ within the wrestling industry, with a loyal fanbase etched out of the post-Grunge fanbase he spoke to during his WCW and ECW runs. In an interview on “The Wrestling Classic” podcast, Raven specifically reminisced about his ECW run and dealing under WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman.

“I loved Pauly. Pauly is the best wrestling mind within the history of the business, I feel,” the veteran proclaimed. “I like Pauly. You already know, he meant a lot to my profession, you realize. And he had heat with me once I left [ECW], because he didn’t want me to go away.”

Raven paradoxically left ECW on two different occasions, originally to go away for WCW after which a second time after a temporary return to go to WWE as an alternative, and in line with the veteran, there was much more heat between him and Heyman the second time.

“I forget exactly, but once I went to Latest York, he wasn’t helpful to me at that time, you realize what I mean?” he explained. “He wasn’t looking for me like he would’ve, like he used to, and he felt betrayed, I assume. But I had higher aspirations than simply ECW, you realize what I mean?”

Despite this, Raven claims that point has healed the injuries between them and believes that things are higher between the 2 of them now as he only says good things about Heyman.

“He’s a singular individual; there’s just one him, you realize? And the perfect work I ever did was with him,” he added. “He was the [Martin] Scorsese to my [Robert] De Niro.”
