Z-A Fan Successfully Recreates Taunie’s Weird Curry

Listen. I’m considered one of curry’s most stalwart defenders. I could eat it every night for months without growing uninterested in it, especially if it’s Japanese-style. My social media accounts’ profiles include the words, “Cats, curry, cafe con leche.” Because all three are integral to my identity, you see. Because I friggin’ love curry. (And cats, and cafe con leche.)

When Taunie first showcased her bizarre spin on Japanese curry in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, I didn’t react as the sport’s script expected me to achieve this. I noted the odd tower-esque shape, however it was still curry. I didn’t care. I didn’t even register that it was held aloft by the three-pillar structure of a trio of croissants until considered one of the dialogue options pointed it out. Whatever. Eat around them.

The web at-large, nevertheless, does appear to have responded to the oddly-presented dish as the sport anticipated. Which makes this story a complete “ew” moment for a few of you, but personally, I’m all in.

Curry a la Taunie

“I’m so normal about this game,” declares Redditor WaterrSheep. “So normal, the truth is, that I made Taunie’s curry. It’s truthfully not that bad flavour/texture smart however the curry to rice ratio is so terrible I had to return and add more curry afterwards.” Yeah, I could see that. However the rice is curry-soaked. It’s perfect rice. I would not mind!

The highest comment goes to hiimnew007: “That appears awful. Incredible job!” No, it doesn’t. OK, enough about me. Let’s get to the meat and potatoes. Another person jotted down what’s sure to work, straight all the way down to the croissants. And, frankly, it’s almost an identical to how I prepare my very own curry. Oops, that is about me again. (That tip about baking soda is a gem; thanks!)

The OP themselves then replied, confirming that their idea was super-close:

Just about exactly what I did except I used the new curry block!!! Also for the rice formation, I used a regular ikea plastic cup and packed the rice in there before smacking it the other way up onto my plate.

Oh and the croissants are only Pillsbury croissants because I’m a university student and didn’t have time to make them from scratch.

This is not even the primary time someone’s attempted this endeavour and posted the outcomes to Reddit. As you may see above, the very GodKingofTurtles themself took up arms two months ago, shortly after Z-A’s launch. You realize what? This, I’m afraid of. The tower shape was forged via gelatin, and… no. Just no.

As for the more recently-prepared recipe, gelatin doesn’t factor, but worship does. Someone asked how WaterrSheep kept it together, and their answer’s pretty good: “Packing the rice into the cup and prayers.” An ingenious mix of pragmatic know-how and spiritual zeal.
