Jana Nayagan Controversy: CBFC Orders 14 Cuts In Vijay Thalapathy’s Last Film- Report

KVN Productions filed a petition with the Madras High Court regarding the delayed certification of Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The hearing on Tuesday addressed the production company’s concerns over the certification process. The CBFC explained that the Chairperson has yet to make a final decision on the film. It was also argued that the requested cuts to Jana Nayagan are considered ‘intermediary’ and never final.

CBFC Orders 14 Cuts In Vijay Thalapathy Led Jana Nayagan

As reported by HT City, Additional Solicitor General ARL Sundaresan, representing the CBFC, outlined the case details based on the provisions of the Cinematograph Act. He clarified that the communication informing the producers in regards to the film being sent to the revising committee was issued on January 6, despite prior communications indicating the board had already made a choice. He further stated that there was no opportunity to file a counter before the matter was scheduled for hearing on January 7 in a previous High Court case.

The Chief Justice questioned whether the communication in regards to the revising committee was sent from the regional office in Chennai or the Mumbai headquarters, and was informed it got here from Mumbai. The ASG emphasised that the committee recommending 14 cuts was an ‘intermediary’ step and never the ultimate authority, reiterating that the CBFC Chairperson has yet to pass a final verdict on the film.

CBFC Raises Doubts On Film’s Budget

The ASG also challenged the makers’ claim of investing Rs 500 crore in Jana Nayagan, questioning their decision to announce a release date prematurely. He concluded by stating that the CBFC was not given sufficient time to reply in the sooner HC case and that the communication sent on January 6 had not been challenged in court. The court is about to listen to KVN Productions’ arguments after lunch.
