Hollywood’s biggest night will soon be in full swing on the 2026 Oscars, but first, the nominations for the 98th annual Academy Awards were revealed.
Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks announced the nominees from California on Thursday, January 22.
For the primary time, casting might be honored on the Academy Awards, with as much as two casting directors per film eligible to win a trophy. Plans are already underway to incorporate one other recent category for stunt design on the a hundredth annual Academy Awards for movies released in 2027.
The 2026 Oscars will include 24 categories, each of which has five nominees. Best Picture is the exception, with a complete of 10 contenders.
Conan O’Brien is ready to return because the host of the awards show for the second consecutive yr.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said in a March 2025 press release that they’re “thrilled to bring back Conan” in addition to producers Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney to the Oscars after “a hugely entertaining and visually stunning show that celebrated our nominees and the worldwide film community in essentially the most beautiful and impactful way.”
As for O’Brien, Kramer and Yang described him as “the proper host — skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth and reverence.”
For his part, O’Brien, 62, joked, “The one reason I’m hosting the Oscars next yr is that I need to listen to Adrien Brody finish his speech.” (After winning Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Brutalist in 2025, Brody, 52, gave the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history, clocking in at five minutes and 40 seconds.)
Before this yr’s nominations were announced, the Academy announced in December 2025 that the awards show broadcast will move to YouTube in 2029, with a deal scheduled to increase through 2033.
The 98th annual Oscars will air on ABC Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m. ET. Keep scrolling to see the whole list of this yr’s Oscars nominees:
