Moving up in weight has not prevented Deiveson Figueiredo from struggling on the size.
UFC 324 was set to mark the previous two-time flyweight champion’s seventh fight since moving as much as the bantamweight division.
That call got here after the Brazilian found it increasingly difficult to make the 125-pound limit. But a number of fights into his profession within the heavier weight class, Figueiredo has found himself coming in heavy.
Ahead of his fight against Umar Nurmagomedov at the highest of Saturday’s prelims, Figueiredo missed weight for UFC 324 by 2.5 kilos.
And the apparent reason behind that sizable indiscretion on the size was recently revealed…

Deiveson Figueiredo’s manager reveals the explanation for his UFC 324 weight miss
‘Deus da Guerra’ had not missed weight since before his first flyweight fight against Joseph Benavidez in 2020, but he looked increasingly unhealthy on the size toward the back end of his flyweight tenure.
With that trend having returned to the surface in a weight class 10 kilos heavier, many have questioned Figueiredo’s discipline.
But in keeping with the Brazilian’s manager, there was a legitimate and strange reason behind his failure to make the bantamweight limit for the primary time.
“He had a really difficult trip to the US,” Davis wrote on X.
“Original flight got deviated due to a storm, he ended up spending 48 hrs with little or no sleep.
“It caught up with him. He began feeling bad and we needed to stop. Sorry!”
In one other post, Davis responded to a fan who asked why Figueiredo’s team had not gone to the UFC and requested a catchweight.
“It’s kinda hard that late in the sport. Within the evening we thought he would make it,” he stated.

Deiveson Figueiredo can have spoiled an enormous opportunity at UFC 324
‘Deus da Guerra’ has yet to secure a shot on the bantamweight title since a struggle to make weight forced him away from the 125-pound weight class.
UFC 324 looked set to mark his biggest likelihood so far, given Nurmagomedov’s high rating and the expectation that the Dagestani is one win away from earning a second championship opportunity.
But Figueiredo can have sacrificed his likelihood at securing a rematch with champion Petr Yan together with his latest indiscretion on the size.
The Brazilian will now be focused on having his hand raised, knowing that a defeat after a weight miss will leave him firmly out of the bantamweight title picture.
