Team India’s World Cup-winning captains, Harmanpreet Kaur and Rohit Sharma, might be honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, on Republic Day. The Padma awards are presented in three categories — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Rohit Sharma, thought to be certainly one of India’s finest leaders, ended the national team’s 13-year ICC trophy drought in 2024 by guiding the Men in Blue to their second T20 World Cup title. Led by the 38-year-old, India edged past South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting final on the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Although Rohit narrowly missed out on lifting the ODI World Cup after ending runners-up in 2023, his leadership within the shortest format proved decisive. However, Harmanpreet Kaur etched her name in history by becoming the primary Indian women’s captain to win a World Cup in any format.
The Women in Blue produced a remarkable turnaround in the ultimate against South Africa to clinch the World Cup in 2025. In the course of the competition, Kaur’s side also registered the best successful run chase in women’s 50-over cricket, hunting down 339 against Australia within the semi-final.

India, who’re co-hosting the T20 World Cup alongside Sri Lanka, will enter the tournament as strong favourites to say the title. The reigning champions will look to create history by becoming the primary team to win the T20 World Cup 3 times and the primary to successfully defend the crown.
