Diego Lopes has ‘no excuses’ as he sends message to Alexander Volkanovski after UFC 325 loss

Diego Lopes was searching for revenge in enemy territory on Saturday night.

Lopes said that UFC 325 could possibly be his last likelihood to win the featherweight belt as he prepared for his second title shot.

The choice to book his rematch with Alexander Volkanovski didn’t go down well with fans, though it was a large opportunity for the Brazilian.

Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t in a position to capitalize on the second time of asking, with Volkanovski beating Lopes again over five rounds.

The challenger had nothing but good things to say about his opponent when reflecting on one other loss to ‘The Great’.

Diego Lopes praises Alexander Volkanovski after coming up short at UFC 325

While he was never going to show down one other title fight, there have been still risks for Diego Lopes in taking a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski.

The Brazilian admitted to creating mistakes of their first encounter but wasn’t in a position to make the best adjustments as a way to make their second bout more competitive.

While the numerous strikes count was quite a bit closer this time around in comparison with last 12 months’s matchup, the scorecards were still heavily favored the defending champion.

The likes of Islam Makhachev’s comments about Volkanovski’s performance were later followed up by a post from his opponent.

Lopes, who suffered some significant injuries on Saturday night, spoke highly of ‘The Great’ after sharing the Octagon with him for a second time.

“No excuses, you’re The Great Alexander Volkanovski for a reason,” he wrote on X. “Thanks for the fight.”

Diego Lopes has an ideal fight arrange for his return

After his first loss to Alexander Volkanovski, Diego Lopes found himself with a terrific opportunity to bounce back.

A clash with the surging Jean Silva had fans counting down the times and when he went in and stopped his fellow Brazilian, his stock climbed right back up.

Fans desired to see Lopes face Yair Rodriguez as an alternative of Silva following the heated comments that were exchanged between them.

With Rodriguez currently one spot below Lopes within the featherweight rankings, it makes perfect sense to tug the trigger on this rematch next.
