UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has been hoping for a move to heavyweight for some months now.
Last October, ‘Poatan’ took on Magomed Ankalaev in an instantaneous rematch of their UFC 313 principal event, and this time, he toppled the Russian along with his elite striking to reclaim the sunshine heavyweight title.
Following that win, the 38-year-old politely called for a heavyweight scrap against the consensus biggest fighter of all time, Jon Jones.
And despite the retirement of Jones and up to date comments that cement that call, Alex Pereira‘s move as much as his third weight class could officially be on.
Pereira posts 3-word tease on social media after months of heavyweight talks
Despite having only been an element of the 205lb division since 2023, the Brazilian has already shared the Octagon with several light heavyweight contenders and there is simply one fresh matchup for him at the highest of the division.
Carlos Ulberg is currently ranked number three within the division and he’s on a powerful nine-fight win streak, potentially separating himself as the subsequent title challenger.
Nonetheless, because he isn’t exactly thought to be a giant name in the game, the fight likely doesn’t massively appeal to Pereira.
And with him being widely thought to be certainly one of, if not the most important star in the game, ‘Poatan’ has been extremely keen on moving as much as heavyweight in pursuit of his third world title, in what would make history.
Despite the incontrovertible fact that Dana White originally wasn’t too keen on the concept of Pereira moving as much as heavyweight, the Brazilian has teased that it could possibly be on with a post on social media.
“1-2-3 and go,” he captioned a post on Instagram.
If the 38-year-old does move up in weight, it is probably going that it can be to fight for a title. Nonetheless, the present heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is currently out of motion recovering from a brutal eye injury.
And with that, there have recently been rumors of a possible interim heavyweight title being introduced, which has led fans to invest a few fight between Pereira and Ciryl Gane.
Alex Pereira could enter GOAT debate with history making win
The Brazilian star is already firmly within the UFC history books and he’s widely thought to be one of the crucial exciting fighters of all time.
But when the 38-year-old was to make his move to heavyweight and he was capable of capture a title in a 3rd weight class, he would firmly place himself in future GOAT debates, being the one fighter to finish a triple title feat.
