On Friday, February 13, Wiz Khalifa took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the heartbreaking news that his father, Laurence W. Thomaz, had passed away. He also shared photos on his Instagram Stories of him and his father growing up, captioning them, “Love you big guy.” Wiz grew up moving around loads during his parents’ military years, but he eventually settled in Pittsburgh, pursued his rap dreams, and have become the icon the star he’s today — at all times carrying the teachings his dad taught him. He also paid tribute to the person who shaped him each as an artist and an individual, saying:
“Today my father decided to not get up. I’ll at all times love him, miss him and be greatful for the things he taught me. He went out like a real yogi, at peace and on his own time. I like you ceaselessly Laurence W. Thomaz.”

What We Know About Wiz Khalifa’s Father
Laurence W. Thomaz, Wiz Khalifa’s father, served within the Air Force alongside Wiz’s mother, Peachie Wimbush, before the couple divorced when Wiz was reportedly around two years old. Growing up, Wiz moved around loads together with his parents during their military service, which shaped much of his youth.
