MILAN – It’s a dream come true for Canada’s Courtney Sarault.
The 25-year-old from Moncton won silver in the ladies’s 1,000-metre short-track speedskating final for her third medal on the Milan Cortina Olympics on Monday.
Sarault finished in a single minute 28.523 seconds. The Netherlands’ Xandra Velzeboer (1:28.437) grabbed gold, while South Korea’s Kim Gilli (1:28.614) earned bronze.
Sarault already had a silver within the mixed team relay and bronze in the five hundred.
“Just crazy,” she said of the sensation of earning a 3rd medal. “From 4 years ago, I’ve come such a great distance. On this distance, I feel I got here eleventh (on the 2022 Beijing Games).

Sarault became the third-ever medallist for Canada in the ladies’s 1,000. Nathalie Lambert (1994) and Kim Boutin (2018) also earned silver within the event.
The short-track speedskater held the lead for the primary six of nine laps when Velzeboer passed her, and Kim went into second shortly after with two laps left. Turning the corner for the ultimate lap, Sarault overtook Kim but couldn’t pass Velzeboer near the top.
“I made a mistake within the quarterfinal, I consider, and just didn’t have day,” Sarault said. “And today, I feel like I made a little bit mistake in my final but I’d relatively make a mistake in my final and get silver than not get a medal in any respect.”
Sarault became the Crystal Globe champion as the highest woman overall throughout the 2025-26 ISU Short Track World Tour. She has also six world championship medals in individual distances to her name.
