Conor McGregor is edging closer to his long-awaited and eagerly anticipated comeback fight.
The previous dual-weight UFC champion has been sidelined since breaking his leg during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
Since then, Conor McGregor has been heavily linked to a fight with Michael Chandler. The lightweight duo filmed a series of The Ultimate Fighter together before agreeing to face off at UFC 303 in June 2024.
‘Notorious’ withdrew from the event after breaking his toe in training. UFC CEO Dana White recently ruled out rebooking the matchup when McGregor called to headline the UFC White House card on June 14.

Conor McGregor provides major comeback update
In recent weeks, fans have been wondering who Conor McGregor will face in his UFC return.
The Irish superstar won’t tell us, but he knows his comeback opponent and fight date.
“I actually have been offered an opponent and a date, and I accept,” McGregor tweeted on Wednesday morning.
He added: “Waiting on my contract.”
As he often does, McGregor quickly deleted the post from his X – formerly referred to as Twitter – account.
The MMA world must now wait for an official update from Dana White on the most important comeback of 2026.
Conor McGregor’s contract issue
Getting a fight contract over to Conor McGregor could also be tougher than it sounds on paper.
In January, the 37-year-old MMA legend claimed his cope with the UFC was ‘void‘ because of the promotion’s $7.7 billion broadcast cope with Paramount.
“I’m going into negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in February,” McGregor said. “I’m very interested to go. They’ve actually got a brand new cope with Paramount, it’s price $7.7 billion. So the corporate has 4xed its profit.
“My contract, essentially, is void without delay because there’s no more PPV, whereas my contract was based on PPV sales,” he continued. “I’m the highest-generating PPV fighter of all time. The PPV system is finished, I’m due a brand new contract.
“So, we’re going into negotiations in February, and I’m very interested to see the way it goes.”
Negotiations have clearly gone well if he’s been offered a comeback date and opponent.
Now, McGregor just must sign a brand new contract and make his return to the Octagon official.
