Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh avoided a disastrous collision on the sector throughout the 2026 T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 18).
It happened within the last over of the match. Shivam Dube bowled a full and wide ball to Zach Lion-Cachet, who could only balloon it high on the off-side. Suryakumar ran backwards from extra-cover, while Rinku was higher positioned running inwards from the deep.
Each fielders called for it, and on the last minute, Suryakumar was seen gesturing wildly at Rinku, who was already right under the ball’s trajectory and well-positioned to catch it. Rinku had his hands ready, but then, after seeing Suryakumar rushing in, he just got out of the way in which, letting the ball spill in the method.
Suryakumar bundled up and easily sat for a minute. It got loads of team members nervous, including Jasprit Bumrah. However the skipper was nice and went on to argue with Rinku. Watch the incident here:
Collisions will be extremely dangerous for cricketers. Players run for catches with their eyes set on the ball — they’re taught not look away even briefly — and the crash of momentum can result in severe injuries.
In these situations, it’s generally the outfielder’s catch — Rinku on this scenario — because he has more control running forward. But he showed good presence of mind there.
Taking that catch isn’t more vital than a player’s safety. That was especially the case for a dead rubber after India had already secured a spot within the Super Eights.
Ultimately, though the Dutch ran the hosts close, India emerged victorious with a margin of 17 runs. They scored 193/6 in the primary innings, because of a stand value 76 (35) between Hardik Pandya and Dube, before three wickets from Varun Chakaravarthy and two from Dube sealed the sport.
