How deep do the Toronto Maple Leafs go heading into the NHL trade deadline and within the offseason?
Each day Faceoff (youtube): David Pagnotta on The Sheet with Jeff Marek, talking in regards to the Toronto Maple Leafs and what is perhaps in store for them heading into the trade deadline and into the subsequent season. When will the Maple Leafs approach Morgan Rielly? Do they keep Oliver Ekman-Larsson? Do they re-sign Bobby McMann or trade him? How else could they trade?

Marek: “William Nylander, we should always mention as well, not practicing for the Swedes. We suspect strongly.”
Pagnotta: “Not ideal.”
NHL Rumors: The Winnipeg Jets in an Unexpected Spot Heading into the Trade Deadline
Marek: “No, not ideal. I mean, to your point to also to your point about Josh Morrissey, like, any injury on the Olympics for his or her big guys, that just about, I mean, I don’t think the Maple Leafs make the playoffs anyhow. I just think that they’re too far back, too many teams. Same thing for the Florida Panthers. But nonetheless, any injury to the massive boys here, that just about solidifies what Brad Treliving goes to do.
How deep, though, like, we’ve heard, like, a whole lot of names like, how deep do you think that this could go? On condition that I actually have a tough time believing that the parent company desires to tear down an excessive amount of here.”
Pagnotta: “No, I agree with you on that one. I don’t anticipate that being the case. But I do think there are going to be some cosmetic changes, and I do think they’re going to be others which are going to be a bit of bit more aggressive in that front.
And I don’t think, I feel they’re going to have a conversation with Morgan Rielly. I don’t think it’s going to be now. I may very well be flawed. I don’t think it’s going to be now. I feel it’ll be once the season concludes that they’re going to return to Morgan Riley and say, ‘we’ve got to do something daring here, will you think about a move.
He’s got the complete no-trade or no-move, whatever it’s. He’s, he’s got control, principally. I feel that’s something that can eventually occur in the event that they miss the playoffs, and that’s prone to occur in the summertime. And he can control, he controls it. In order that they can ask him, and he may say no. And I imagine that they had a loose conversation at the top of last season about it. Obviously didn’t result in anything apart from him staying and attempting to ramp up his offseason training.
But I do think that they’re going to check out numerous, numerous different options. You understand, I feel, you already know, teams began poking around on (Ekman-Larsson). I don’t know the way much of an appetite the Leafs have to truly try this. He’s been their best defenseman this season. But when anyone is willing to pay a premium, I feel they consider it.
I feel there are going to be another players as well. Like they must make a choice. I feel at the start on Bobby McMann. Is five times five realistic to carry on to him, and do they need to try this versus attempt to recoup an asset? Can they get a first-round pick and perhaps something else for him, you already know, on the market? But the choices to a point are limited. So there’s that.
I feel Simon Benoit goes to be anyone that some teams are going to have interest in, and, you already know, have a conversation with. And I feel (GM Brad Treliving) goes to proceed to sort of dangle another pieces that he’s done before, be it (Brandon) Carlo, Max Domi, Matias Maccelli and so forth. I feel they’re going to be some, some tinkering that should be done with this roster.
Because take into accout, I also think that Dakota Joshua, the anticipation is that he’ll be back after Olympics. In order that they’re going to fill some holes with a few of their guys which are, which are banged up a bit of bit.
NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs
But, you already know, they’re going to must take some serious thought into sort of augmenting this roster a tiny bit going into next season, or, excuse me, going into the summer to make some more larger changes into next season.”
