Team Canada fell short in extra time against Team USA within the gold medal game. Canada was unsure if their captain, Sidney Crosby, can be playing in the sport. Crosby ended up not playing in the sport, as Canada fell in extra time 2-1.
After the sport. Nathan MacKinnon spoke about his captain, per Arpon Basu on The Athletic.
“He did it for us and the country to not play,” MacKinnon said after the sport.
Crosby was injured within the second period against Czechia within the quarterfinals. He didn’t return to the ice after the hit, after which would go on to miss the semifinal against Finland. There was hope that Crosby would have the opportunity to go against america, in keeping with Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.
“We’ll see, I watched him skate today,” Team Canada coach Jon Cooper said Saturday. “We’re going to fulfill tonight and have a determination of what’s going to occur tomorrow. He won’t put himself in harm’s way, he’s not going to place the team in harm’s way.”
Crosby is a two-time gold-medalist on the Olympics already and hoped so as to add a 3rd. Still, with a lot talent available for Canada, having Crosby take a spot not at one hundred pc may not have been an option.
“No, it’s too necessary, we don’t need to have someone in there as an inspiration once we could have a player in there able to helping,” Cooper responded about dressing Crosby because the thirteenth forward to have him on the bench. “You never know if guys are going to get hurt in a game. And he wouldn’t want to do this either.”
MacKinnon hinted that it can have ultimately been Crosby’s decision to not play. If that is Crosby’s final Olympics, he finishes with seven goals and nine assists in his Olympic profession, together with two gold medals and one silver.
