West Indies crushed Zimbabwe by 107 runs in T20 World Cup Super Eights, powered by Shimron Hetmyer’s 85 and Rovman Powell’s 59, amassing 254/6 at Wankhede Stadium.

West Indies overwhelmed Zimbabwe by 107 runs in a one-sided T20 World Cup Super Eights match, because of the powerful performances of Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell, which led them to the second-highest total within the tournament’s history on Monday.
On a flat pitch, West Indies showed their intent by smashing 19 sixes and 16 fours, reaching a complete of 254/6. Hetmyer scored 85 off 34 balls, while Powell contributed 59 off 35 balls.
The West Indies narrowly missed breaking Sri Lanka’s record total of 260/6 set against Ireland in 2007.
In response, Zimbabwe collapsed under the pressure of the daunting goal, with the sport effectively decided by the third over when Akeal Hosein (3/28) delivered a rare double-wicket maiden.
The collapse began when Hosein bowled out Zimbabwe’s top batter, Brian Bennett, for five. Opener Tadiwanashe Marumani (14) was then caught by Hetmyer off Matthew Forde.
Hetmyer continued to contribute in the sphere, catching Ryan Burl (0) at mid-wicket off Hosein, leaving Zimbabwe struggling at 20/3 inside three overs.
Gudakesh Motie (4/28) further dismantled Zimbabwe’s innings with two wickets within the eleventh over, and the team was eventually bowled out for 147 in 17.4 overs.
Brad Evans scored a career-best 43 off 21 balls, including 2 fours and 5 sixes, and his 44-run stand for the tenth wicket with Richard Ngarava reduced the margin of defeat.
The victory marked West Indies’ fifth consecutive win on the Wankhede Stadium in T20 World Cup history, ranging from their title-winning run in 2016.
Hetmyer’s explosive innings, which included the fastest half-century for his team off 19 balls, surpassed his previous record of twenty-two deliveries earlier within the tournament against Scotland.
Despite being given a few lifelines, Hetmyer capitalized on the chance by hitting seven sixes and 7 fours for his second fifty of the tournament.
Zimbabwe’s Tashinga Musekiwa, playing his first game at the enduring venue, will remember the match for dropping Hetmyer twice, on nine and 70.
Brandon King (9) was caught by Musekiwa at deep backward square within the third over. Nevertheless, within the fourth over, Musekiwa dropped a catch off Blessing Muzarabani, giving Hetmyer one other likelihood.
Hetmyer, after starting with a boundary off the primary ball, continued to construct his innings despite the early scare.
Ngarava was then hit for 2 consecutive fours, and Graeme Cremer was dispatched for 2 towering sixes within the seventh over.
Batting with out a helmet or cap, Hetmyer unleashed a series of sixes against the Zimbabwean bowlers.
Zimbabwean skipper Sikandar Raza tried to regain control but was hit for 3 sixes by Hetmyer, who collected 20 runs off the eighth over.
West Indies scored 124 runs between overs 2-12, with Powell providing strong support to Hetmyer. The pair added 122 runs off 52 balls for the third wicket.
Powell’s innings included 4 fours and 4 sixes, and he seized every scoring opportunity.
Towards the tip of the innings, Sherfane Rutherford (31 not out), Romario Shepherd (21), and Jason Holder (13) helped the West Indies surpass the 250-run mark.
