Cole Palmer could possibly be tempted to affix Manchester United if Michael Carrick is given the everlasting job at Old Trafford, based on former Chelsea star Pat Nevin.

Speculation has suggested Palmer has grown unsettled in west London since leaving Manchester City for the capital two-and-a-half years ago.

Chelsea are adamant the England international is not going to be leaving with Liam Rosenior describing such reports as ‘unrealistic’ but talk of a return to Manchester continues to swirl.

Palmer is a boyhood United fan and despite being probably the most useful assets within the Premier League, former Chelsea star Nevin believes they’d give you the option to ‘sort out’ the financial side of any prospective move.

While United have spent the season outside of Europe after their wretched 15th place finish last term, Carrick has lifted the gloom around Old Trafford with the club now hopeful of securing Champions League qualification.

Provided that turnaround, Nevin suggests United have gotten a rather more attractive proposition for a boyhood fan like Palmer, with Carrick’s role particularly significant.

‘Does Cole Palmer fancy playing for Manchester United? That’s it. No one knows except Cole Palmer,’ Nevin told BestBettingSites.

‘If he says Manchester United, I’ve heard hints that he was a United fan as a child. I don’t know if that’s true, but I’ve heard that was his team as a child. That’s a draw.

‘If you have a look at what United are doing just now and the way they’re playing, and the likelihood that you simply might even have stability at Manchester United, that becomes a temptation. With Michael Carrick, it just seems like a special place. It feels totally different.

‘I’ve been at Old Trafford numerous times over the previous couple of years and it’s been a tough place to look at football sometimes.

‘The sensation hasn’t even been ugly, just flat. Worse than anger is people being fed up, and also you never wish to see that at Manchester United due to the club it’s, the history it has and the dimensions it’s. The Premier League needs a giant Manchester United.

‘I hope Michael Carrick gets the job long run. I believe the group that’s in only now has already shown enough that they’ll lift the club.

‘I hope they get the job for not less than the subsequent 12 months after this season, whatever happens between now and the tip of the season. I’d give them that.

Would that be enough to tempt Cole? I wouldn’t be shocked.’
