Top ranked UFC light heavyweight contender Carlos Ulberg has warned Khamzat Chimaev against a move as much as 205lbs.
Following his middleweight title win against Dricus Du Plessis last August, Khamzat Chimaev has been teasing a mess of various things.
Initially, the Chechen teased a title defense against Nassourdine Imavov, who’s currently ranked number two within the division, before then sparking one other feud with Sean Strickland and welcoming him to fight.
In addition to continuing to feud fighters in his division, Chimaev has been claiming that his next fight will likely be at light heavyweight, which he has been warned against by Carlos Ulberg.
Ulberg tells Chimaev to ‘stay in his lane’ as he warns him against 205lb move
‘Black Jag’ has seemingly been in position for a lightweight heavyweight title shot for a while now, riding a nine fight win streak.
After knocking out Dominick Reyes this past September within the UFC Perth important event, Ulberg seemingly cemented his spot because the primary contender.
Despite that, talks regarding Alex Pereira moving as much as heavyweight proceed to flow into, which could leave Ulberg fighting against Jiri Prochazka for the vacant light heavyweight title.
Nevertheless, with Chimaev continuing to tease a possible move as much as 205lbs, it has somewhat delayed things moving forward.
And although ‘Borz’ is being backed to succeed at light heavyweight by the vast majority of the fanbase, Ulberg has warned him against a move as much as the division.
“He’s too small. Stay in your lane brother, handle your small business over there, I’ll handle mine here. 205lbs is mine!” Ulberg told Combat Sports Network.
Fortunately for Ulberg, though, Chimaev’s move to light heavyweight has been shut down by Dana White, who said that the Chechen must defend his middleweight title first.
Chimaev can be a foul matchup for Ulberg
Although Chimaev’s move to light heavyweight could also be delayed, it’s seemingly inevitable to come back to fruition in some unspecified time in the future within the near future.
And if Ulberg successfully claims the title in either a fight against Pereira or a vacant title fight against Prochazka, a matchup against Chimaev wouldn’t be very favorable for him.
Despite the incontrovertible fact that he has a takedown defense percentage of 85 within the UFC, ‘Borz’s’ wrestling pressure is totally unique and he hasn’t fought anyone near the caliber of wrestling of Chimaev.
