Selma Blair Records Music For Son Amid MS Battle, Fears Losing Voice

Selma Blair is entering into the recording studio for a private project dedicated to her son as she navigates the challenges of living with MS. The actress continues to channel her creativity while sharing glimpses of her private life as she balances her profession, motherhood, and health journey.

Selma Blair Is Working With A Grammy Winner

On March 1, Blair shared some snaps on social media, showing her working in a recording studio alongside Grammy-winning music producer Dave Reitzas.

Because the actress shared within the caption, she is working on a project for her 14-year-old son, Arthur. “I did it because there is a quiet fear that lives with MS, that sooner or later, I could lose my voice,” Blair shared, adding that “nothing is guaranteed” together with her disease.

Although Blair didn’t reveal specific details in regards to the recording, she shared that it’s one in every of her favorite memories that her mother passed right down to her and her siblings. Likewise, she desires to pass it right down to her own child, and eventually to Arthur’s future family.

She concluded the post on a lighter note, writing that Reitzas helped her sound “barely more in-tune” within the recording. “Not a simple job… but I’m so touched and thankful,” she noted.

The Actress Shared Her Diagnosis In 2018

In October 2018, Blair took to Instagram to publicly share her MS diagnosis. “I’m disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy,” she wrote.

Based on the World Health Organization, multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that will affect a patient’s balance, cognitive abilities, and vision. This happens when the immune system attacks the brain and spinal cord. There’s currently no cure for MS, but there are treatments that may reduce its symptoms.

Despite being officially diagnosed in 2018, Blair said that her symptoms could have began as early as her childhood years. She has since been an advocate for awareness, sharing her health journey with the general public.

It was Blair who urged fellow actress Christina Applegate to get tested for MS when she experienced a tingling sensation in her feet. Applegate was diagnosed with MS in 2021.

Selma Blair’s Son Takes Care Of Her

Blair shares her son Arthur together with her ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick. Based on the actress, it was difficult navigating her disease while also raising her son as a single parent. “My fatigue was at all times the important issue and as any parent knows, especially a single parent, there is no room for extra fatigue,” she shared.

In 2021, the mother and son duo walked the red carpet together, and the then-10-year-old boy expressed how proud he was of his mother. In 2025, Blair praised Arthur, describing him as “brave” and sharing how he at all times “takes great care” of her when she needs support amid her MS battle, per People.

“My disease is not a tragedy, but I tell myself, ‘You are going to live in a way that might be an example for yourself and your son’,” Blair said.

The Actress Is In Remission

In 2021, Blair shared that she was in remission, saying that no latest lesions had formed and the disease had stopped progressing. Two years later, she opened up about her struggles and said she still experiences symptoms of MS, corresponding to dystonia or involuntary muscle contractions, and was “in pain on a regular basis.”

In November 2025, Blair shared that she was doing higher after going through stem cell treatment and chemotherapy. “That, after all, means the world to me that I’m not, at this moment, accumulating more damage in my brain,” she expressed. Admittedly, the actress said she’s “very lucky,” as MS presents otherwise for every patient.

Selma Blair Thought She Would Never Work Again

In January, Blair opened up on “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle” about where her journey has brought her. She told the hosts, “I absolutely thought I might not act again.” For a number of years, Blair used a cane for support, but stopped using one around 2024 after her health improved.

As she said on the show, “I’m relapse-free for a few years. It took an extended time to interrupt through and begin healing.” In 2022, Blair joined “Dancing with the Stars” but needed to exit in week 5 on account of MS symptoms. Three years later, she starred within the movie “Stay Forte.”

Blair can be set to star within the upcoming supernatural thriller “Silent,” where she plays Skylar, a sound designer tasked to compose music for a silent film.
