Ilia Topuria has criticized Islam Makhachev for once more making an excuse to not fight him.
This past Saturday throughout the UFC 326 broadcast, it was announced that ‘El Matador’ would defend his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje within the UFC White House primary event.
Although there have been initially talks for that fight to happen on the milestone event, reports suggested that the promotion were entering into a special direction.
And earlier this week, reports suggested that Ilia Topuria was in talks to tackle Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title on the historic card.
Topuria details UFC White House negotiations that took place
In line with Topuria’s manager, Malki Kawa, the UFC asked the Spaniard and his team whether he would love to fight Makhachev or Gaethje, to which he responded that he desired to fight the Russian.
Despite that, they were then told that Makhachev was unable to fight on June 14 resulting from an ongoing hand injury.
“Once more, Islam comes up with an excuse. This time it’s an injury,” Topuria said in a post on X.
“I at all times knew I can be a part of the White House event. Even when the UFC told me at one point that they wouldn’t count on me for the event, I knew it was a part of the negotiation.
“After they finally told me I can be on the White House card, they mentioned Islam and I didn’t hesitate for a second to just accept the fight. Although the fight hadn’t been officially confirmed yet, the White House card was going to be announced the subsequent day.
“And after I woke up, I came upon that Islam had gotten injured. After which Justin Gaethje appeared.”
The vast majority of UFC fans believed that the one fight sufficiently big to headline such a monumental event was a fight between the present pound-for-pound primary and two.
Despite that, the 29-year-old champion now believes that Gaethje might be the most recent fighter to ‘pay for Islam’s escape’.
“Once more, someone who else can pay for Islam’s escape. Each of their manager’s are a b—- and likewise ugly as hell. Justin, see you on the White House. I’m not someone who humiliates people. It can be quick, If you get up, all the things will already be over.”
