Tamil Filmmaker Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away At 72

Veteran Tamil filmmaker and musician Thakkali Srinivasan passed away on the age of 72 in Bengaluru on March 10 because of health complications. Renowned for his multifaceted profession as a producer, director, actor, musician, and screenplay author, Srinivasan was a big figure in South Indian cinema. His demise prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues across social media platforms.

Thakkali Srinivasan Passed Away At 72

Srinivasan, celebrated for his contributions to Tamil and Telugu movies, died in Bengaluru, along with his last rites held on March 11. His publicist shared the news, stating, “Deeply regret to tell that Producer, Director, and Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away because of health issues in Bengaluru. He was also a philanthropist who ran an ashram in his later years and was living along with his adopted children.”

About Thakkali Srinivasan’s Profession

Throughout his illustrious profession, Srinivasan produced several notable movies, including Ivargal Varungala Thoongal, Manasukul Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, Jenma Natchathiram, Athisiya Manithan, and Witness. He also played an antagonist in Kamal Haasan’s Soora Samharam.

He began his journey in cinema as a producer with Ivargal Varungala Thoongal, and in 1989, he produced the science fiction film Nalaya Manithan, which was a business success and led to its sequel, Adhisaya Manithan, in 1990.

More Than Movies

In 1991, Srinivasan made his directorial debut with the supernatural horror film Jenma Natchathram. He continued directing movies like Witness, featuring a big ensemble forged, and wrapped up his directorial profession with Asokavanam and Aduthathu in 2011. Aside from directing and producing, Srinivasan was also a talented composer, often working as a part of the Premi–Srini duo, contributing several memorable songs to Tamil cinema.

While he gained recognition primarily in Telugu cinema, his contributions to Tamil movies and his humanitarian efforts—supporting an ashram and caring for his adopted children—earned him widespread respect and admiration.
