During a recent interview with Soundsphere Magazine, AEW star and former Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter shared her thoughts on the present state of ladies’s wrestling.
You’ll be able to take a look at some highlights from the interview below:
On women’s wrestling: “There’s been plenty of changes for the higher, but I can’t sit here and be like, ‘It’s so great now!’ because there’s just so way more work that will be done. But I can’t say that there haven’t been changes, because there have – and all the ladies have worked so hard for them. But there’s still stuff to be done.”
On women’s wrestlers facing greater scrutiny than the boys: “I feel like as a lady, we’re probably under the microscope loads greater than men are. If you have got a nasty match, then it’s like ‘Oh my god, you’re the worst wrestler ever’. Whereas a man could have a nasty match and it’s like, ‘Oh well’, or in case you don’t look a certain way, then they don’t like that either.”
On fans questioning her latest ’70s-inspired look and making Scooby-Doo comparisons: “It’s just all this stuff that form of pile on top of being a lady’s wrestler, right? I believe it adds to the anxiety and the pressure of performing.”
On a recent RevPro card not featuring any women’s wrestlers: “There are many women within the UK who don’t get opportunities, who aren’t wrestling on the show. There’s definitely loads of them around. A promoter’s gonna be a promoter at the top of the day. Some promoters, I believe very clearly don’t care about women’s wrestling.”
